I have always loved drawing and drawing stories since I was young. I studied graphic design, worked and travelled a bit before deciding that making images is what I wanted to do.
So I now work out of my home/graphic design studio with my housemate/business partner. My work is primarily digital, created in Photoshop and Illustrator with my trusty Wacom.

I love editorial illustration and comic art and my work is definitely influenced by those art forms.

Matthew

I studied at Rhodes University (majoring in journalism and philosophy), with the intention of getting into political cartooning and newspaper comic strips.

After that I began working as a freelance cartoonist, writer and illustrator, and have been doing that full time for the last five years.

I have done work for a number of educational publishers (Pearson, Maskew Miller Longman, Oxford University Press and Macmillan) as well as several newspapers and magazines (Ride magazine, Men’s health, The Bolander). I have written comics and comic strips for Strika entertainment (Supa Strikas, etc) and also storyboarded the weekly Supa Strikas comic strip featured in the Sunday Times. I previously did a weekly comic strip for www.sagoodnews.com, and I continue to have a monthly comic strip featured in Ride magazine as well as a weekly comic strip in YOU magazine called "Odd Jobz".
While my style has some flexibility, I specialise in cartoons. My biggest strength is in my ability to write and draw comic strips and cartoons. All my work is done digitally, after the initial pencil sketching. I am fairly proficient in Illustrator, and have a good knowledge of Photoshop. I am available for black and white illustration, colour illustration, caricatures, inking, colouring, storyboarding, as well as writing and drawing comic strips and cartoons.

Chris L

Chris graduated from The University of Natal in 2002 where he studied Fine Art. Despite having never touched a computer he thought it viable to move to Johannesburg and try his hand at animation where he worked as a 2D animator for several years before deciding to focus on illustration as his main discipline.

Now that he has figured out how to use a computer he works mostly in Photoshop and Illustrator, scanning in pencil drawings and working with them digitally. He loves digital painting and how it works with the traditionally drawn image.

The diversity of work that illustration has offered is something that is something that he revels in and has consequently enjoyed doing storyboards and character designs for commercials, illustrations for books and album covers.

Malcolm

My name is Malcolm and I am a freelance illustrator based in Cape Town, South Africa.
I officially am an Architecture Graduate finishing 3 years at the University of Cape Town. My passion however lies in art, comics and design.

As a professional Illustrator, I have worked for Supa-Strikas, one of South Africa’s leading comic companies. I have also freelanced for various clients ranging from America all the way to Europe. In addition to this, I started my own t-shirt company at the beginning of 2011 called Rocketboi Concepts, which is growing ever steadily.

I like to think of my art as eclectic, borrowing from various forms of art and other visual communication. By blending aspects of several styles, I have made my own visually and conceptually unique. Some of my most prominent influences are comics, predominantly publications hailing from Europe and Japan. By sharing my talent and work with the rest of the world, I hope to encourage and inspire fellow artists in the same way in which my influences have inspired me.
