Maria

Maria is a freelance illustrator living and working in Johannesburg. She completed a degree in Information design at the University in Pretoria as well as a Masters degree in Illustration at the University of Stellenbosch.
Maria prefers a hand-drawn approach to illustration, as she believes that this ensures each piece has a unique personal touch.

Her preferred mediums are watercolour, acrylic paint, colour pencils, combined with just a touch of collage. Maria works in a wide range of applications, from picture books and commercial projects, to gallery pieces and private commissions.

Adrie

I completed my degree in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria in 2006, after which I worked in the creative industry before pursuing further studies.

I recently completed a Master of Philosophy degree in Illustration, at the University of Stellenbosch.

My work predominantly consists of mixed media. I enjoy working with expressive line work, texture and collage elements.

Clients for illustrative work include MacMillan Publishers and Happy Artworks among others.

Karien

Karien has always had a passion for fairy tales, dragons, witches and all types of mystical and fantastic beings. She also loves to sketch and combined this with her huge appetite for the mystery and fantasy of fairytales.
Inspired by authors such as Tolkien, CS Lewis and JK Rowling and illustrators such as Chris Riddell, she took an interest in illustrations for children.

She studied at London Art College for a diploma in Children’s Book Illustration, which she passed with a distinction. She also has been tutored by Mark Mitchell, an acclaimed children’s illustrator in the USA. She has worked with various educational publishers in South Africa. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

Karien works in Artrage and Photoshop.

I've been working in animated television for four years, in Johannesburg and now Cape Town, and turned to freelance storyboarding  full-time after working on Season 3 of the local show 'Supa Strikas'.

I have a quick turn around time. I also have a passion for story, illustration, sequential art and film and am making inroads into children's publishing as well. Anything that keeps life interesting...

Chris V

I am a Cape Town based children's book and magazine illustrator open to any kind of publication projects. I graduated with a Btech degree in Graphic Design at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2008, Cum Laude.

During my studies I trained under internationally renowned illustrator, Piet Grobler. From 2009 I started working as a children's book illustrator. In 2011 I won my first ATKV woordveertjie award for my illustrations in the picture book, Karla Krullebol.

I have done work for Oxford University Press, Mascew Millar Longman, Pearson, Cambridge University Press, Via Afrika, NB Publishers, Lapa Publishers and many more organizations.

I almost mainly work digitally on a Wacom Cintiq Tablet, but I like to combine digital with traditional media as well on certain projects. I use Adobe photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and sometimes Adobe Indesign. My passion for pictures drives me and I treat each project like a new artwork that deserves respect and attention. It's in my nature to work to completion in accordance to the preference of the client.

David is an artist based in Cape Town.

He worked in the comic industry for Strika entertainmet, Beat Comics, Jincom and Mamba Media doing illustration, inking, colouring and lettering and is now freelancing doing comics and design.

He is experienced in both entertainment and visual communication comics and apart from the skills mentioned already, does character designs as well as design and layout.

Adrian

I am a professional artist who specialises in fine art, portraiture and illustration.

For the last 15+ years I have worked intermittently as a Freelance Illustrator for the Publishing Industry who regularly commission illustrations predominantly for educational material.

In addition I've worked as a muralist and freelance creative in the commercial, residential and hospitality décor & design industries. I've done a few stints in the art departments for film, television and assisted with the conceptual artwork, art direction, implementation and brand identity for various clients. The staple focus remains illustration for an expanding list of publishers and advertisers.

My llustrative style would best be described as figurative, and so by definition is representational and realistic and yet is flexible and innovative. Primarily, my interest lies in the pursuit of fine art.
